Former West Ham and Manchester United scout Mick Brown, who remains well-connected in football circles, has exclusively told Football Insider that Liverpool have been monitoring 24-year-old Mohammed Kudus.

However, doubts linger over the midfielder’s ability to make the step up to a top club following an underwhelming season with West Ham.

Football Insider previously reported that Liverpool may be able to secure Kudus for a fee below his £80million release clause during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Despite having the Ghanaian international on their radar, the Reds are reportedly hesitant, given his modest return of just four goals from 29 starts this season.

Back in January, Brown had urged Kudus to improve his performances at West Ham if he hoped to secure a move to a bigger club, amid reported interest from Arsenal.

Now, the experienced scout has offered fresh insights, revealing that the London club might consider cut-price offers for Kudus as they look to make a profit on the player, although it’s unlikely that interested clubs will meet his full release clause.

Brown, who spent over a decade in senior recruitment roles at Manchester United during their most successful period, insisted Kudus would be eager to join a club like Liverpool.

“Liverpool have been tracking Mohammed Kudus,” Brown told Football Insider. “He’d leap at the chance if an offer was made.

He finally scored his first goal of the calendar year against Brighton, but four goals all season is simply not enough for a player of his talent.”

Brown believes Kudus has the flair to attract attention but lacks consistent impact across matches. “The way he plays can be eye-catching, but he doesn’t influence games enough,” he said.

“That’s likely what Liverpool and other scouts are seeing. No one’s going to shell out £80million based on flashes of talent alone.”

While Brown doesn’t question Kudus’ ability, he emphasized that the player hasn’t shown enough to warrant a move to a top-tier side.

“He’s probably on Liverpool’s list of targets, but when you’re replacing key starters, you need players who can elevate the team. Based on his current form, Kudus isn’t that player.”

In related West Ham news, midfielder Tomas Soucek may also be on the move this summer. The Czech international has been linked with both Everton and Leeds United.

On April 29, Football Insider reported that Soucek could seek a reunion with David Moyes at Everton, should the Merseyside club make an approach.

That said, the transfer may not be straightforward. Soucek remains under contract with West Ham until 2027 and is still considered a valuable member of the squad.

However, there are questions over how he might fit into new manager Graham Potter’s plans for next season.

Sources suggest that West Ham could be open to selling Soucek for around £10million, particularly if doubts over his role persist.
