Although Moyes was pleased with Everton’s summer transfer business, it is evident that the squad still lacks firepower and depth in key areas.
One potential target who could be on the move is West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta.
Everton were linked with the Brazilian playmaker over the summer, largely at Moyes’ request, when uncertainty surrounded his future at the London Stadium.
While Paqueta eventually decided to stay put, that stance appears to have changed.
According to The Times, the 27-year-old has now informed West Ham of his desire to leave in January.
The Hammers are reportedly preparing to announce significant financial losses, which could force them into selling a key player to balance the books.
Letting Paqueta go mid-season would be risky, especially given their current struggles in the Premier League, but financial pressures may leave them with little choice.
Both Tottenham and Everton were among the clubs monitoring Paqueta’s situation during the summer, and it remains to be seen whether the Toffees will reignite their interest.
Everton’s attacking options include Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Iliman Ndiaye, but with Grealish only on loan from Manchester City, his future beyond this season is uncertain.
Signing Paqueta could provide quality cover if Grealish’s stay is not made permanent.
The Brazilian is versatile enough to operate on the left flank but is most effective through the middle, allowing Ndiaye and youngster Tyler Dibling to occupy the wide roles.
