BOMBSHELL TRANSFER ALERT After Snatching Gomes, Aston Villa Are In Advanced Talks to Sign a ABSOLUTE MONSTER Onana Replacement Who Will TERRORISE the Premier League! (This one’s going to break the internet…

Aston Villa are preparing for a major midfield overhaul ahead of the 2026/27 season following significant departures and injury setbacks.

The biggest change comes with Morgan Rogers’ £117 million move to Chelsea, where he will become part of Xabi Alonso’s new project after contributing 17 Premier League goals and assists last season.

Villa have also suffered a huge blow with Amadou Onana, who is expected to miss between six and nine months after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament while representing Belgium at the 2026 World Cup.

In response, Unai Emery has already strengthened his squad by signing Johan Manzambi for a club-record £59.5 million.

However, Villa remain active in the transfer market as they search for an experienced defensive midfielder capable of filling the void left by Onana.

According to Birmingham Live journalist John Townley, Villa have opened talks with Bayern Munich over a loan move for João Palhinha.

The Portuguese midfielder is viewed as a strong short-term solution thanks to his Premier League experience with Fulham and Tottenham.

The club is also closing in on a £38 million deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder João Gomes, although his strengths lie more in driving forward and supporting attacks than operating as a holding midfielder.

Palhinha’s profile makes him a natural replacement for Onana. The 31-year-old has built a reputation as one of the league’s most combative midfielders, combining defensive discipline with the ability to contribute goals from distance.

Last season, he scored five Premier League goals while also averaging 3.3 tackles and 5.8 duels won per game.

Those defensive numbers compare favourably with Onana, who averaged 1.9 tackles and 4.9 duels won per league match before his injury.

Palhinha’s aggressive style has even earned him the nickname “monster” from analyst Marcus Bring, highlighting the physical presence he could bring to Villa’s midfield.

While it remains unclear whether Villa would seek to make any loan move permanent, Palhinha appears to be an ideal short-term solution.

If completed, his arrival would help stabilise Emery’s reshaped midfield as the club prepares to begin the new Premier League season against Brighton & Hove Albion.
