West Ham Executives "Unhappy" with Julen Lopetegui, Sack During International Break Possible
On the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Keith Wyness, former CEO of Everton (2004-2009) and now a football consultant for elite clubs, revealed that “close sources at West Ham” have informed him that Julen Lopetegui’s job is at immediate risk.
The most likely scenario is that Lopetegui will be given until Christmas to turn things around at the London Stadium.
However, there is a real possibility he could be sacked just three months into his tenure.
West Ham currently sit 14th in the Premier League, having won only three of their first 11 matches this season.
Lopetegui replaced David Moyes in the off-season, with the club making significant signings to support him.
The Spanish coach is contracted until June 2026, with an option for a 12-month extension.
Wyness highlighted a “lot of unhappiness” behind the scenes at the club. Speaking on the podcast, he shared: “I’ve spoken to close sources at West Ham.
While he is being publicly supported, behind the scenes there is significant discontent.
If he survives the international break, he’ll get until Christmas, at which point his performance will be reviewed. But he’s on the brink right now.”
Wyness went on to explain that the style of play under Lopetegui has not impressed West Ham fans, adding, “It’s a case of be careful what you wish for.
Moyes is gone, and they are in a similar, if not worse, position.”
He believes Lopetegui should be given until Christmas, as that would be the fair way to handle the situation.
However, he acknowledged that the Spanish coach is currently “in the crosshairs” At west Ham.
