According to a talkSPORT journalist via X on August 19, former Chelsea and Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic will return to Goodison Park on a one-year contract.
Begovic is set to become Everton’s sixth signing of the summer, following a season in the Championship at Loftus Road, where he made 46 appearances.
Everton have already signed attackers Iliman Ndiaye, Jesper Lindstrom, and Jack Harrison, along with midfielder Tim Ireogbunam and defender Jake O’Brien.
Jordan Pickford Backup to Return to Everton
This signing is expected to have minimal impact on the pitch, as Sean Dyche and fans hope Jordan Pickford remains the primary goalkeeper.
However, Begovic, 37, is anticipated to provide vital experience in the dressing room, with Mark McAdam noting on August 19 that Dyche could benefit from his leadership.
The 3-0 defeat to Brighton wasn’t as disastrous as the scoreline suggested, and Tim Ireogbunam addressed the issue of multiple other midfield targets going elsewhere.
Nonetheless, the match indicated that this season might follow a similar dramatic pattern to the previous one, making Begovic’s veteran presence reassuring.
Ireogbunam was the only new signing to start against the Seagulls, with returning loanee Jack Harrison also in the lineup.
The defense was troubled first by an error from Idrissa Gana Gueye, leading to Danny Welbeck’s second goal, and then by Ashley Young’s reckless sending-off.
