If It’s Not Broken – Our Predicted XI for Newcastle United’s Clash with Leicester City at King Power Stadium

Aston Villa’s shock win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday allowed them to leapfrog Newcastle in the standings.

However, the Magpies still have two games in hand over the Villans, one of which is the match against Leicester on Monday.

As of Sunday morning, Chelsea and Manchester City have yet to play, and they are the two clubs Newcastle is chasing, with just two points separating the Magpies from fourth-placed Chelsea.

Newcastle also holds a game in hand over both teams.

By the time you’re reading this, we hope Brentford has helped us out by securing a win against Chelsea and that Manchester City has dropped points in the Manchester derby.

However, relying on other teams is not the plan; we need to continue winning, and to do that, it seems Eddie Howe will keep the winning side unchanged.

Goalkeeper: Nick Pope – After Eddie Howe convinced Martin Dubravka to remain with the club, Pope is firmly back as the first-choice goalkeeper and will be in goal for Monday’s match.

Defenders: Kieran Trippier – Trippier is carrying a minor injury, and while Emil Krafth could step in, Trippier will likely play if fit.

Fabian Schar – Schar’s confidence continues to grow with each win, and his long balls are becoming a key feature of the game again.

Dan Burn – There’s no chance of dropping Dan Burn; his consistent performances make him indispensable.

Tino Livramento – Livramento has been impressing everyone, particularly with his adaptability on the opposite flank.

Midfielders: Bruno Guimaraes (c) – Guimaraes may not have had his best game recently, but as captain, he won’t be dropped.

Sandro Tonali – Tonali’s relentless work rate is a joy to watch, though improving his passing accuracy would make him even more of an all-rounder.

Joelinton – Another player carrying a slight injury, but if he’s fit to play, Joelinton will push to feature despite needing treatment on Wednesday.

Forwards: Jacob Murphy – Murphy’s recent form has been fantastic, with another assist on Wednesday. He’s in great shape and will continue to feature prominently.

Alexander Isak – Reports suggest Isak will be fit to play, but if necessary, Callum Wilson could get the nod for this game.

Harvey Barnes – Although Anthony Gordon is still dealing with a knock from international duty, Barnes has earned a starting spot against his former club.

Anthony Gordon may be on the bench, with Leo Shahar expected to drop out of the squad.

Matt Targett could return to the bench, replacing Sean Neave. However, no changes are expected to the starting XI.
