Everton Set to Land Fulham Full-Back Tete on Free Transfer

Kenny Tete, who joined Fulham in 2020 and played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League during his second season, is now poised to join Everton on a free transfer.

The Dutch full-back made just 21 league appearances last season after missing four months with a knee injury, and with his contract at Craven Cottage expiring at the end of June, he’s expected to move on.

Everton’s former CEO Keith Wyness, now a football consultant, believes signing Tete would be a smart move for the club.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness expressed his preference for Tete over Manchester City veteran Kyle Walker, who had also been linked with the Merseyside club.

“I’m relieved we’re going for someone under 30—barely, but still under,” Wyness joked. “On a serious note, he’s strong defensively, excellent in the tackle, and fits the mould of a David Moyes-type player.”

He added, “While it may not be a long-term fix, Tete brings valuable experience to the squad. He’s available on a free, which makes the deal even better.

I’m far more optimistic about this signing than going after someone like Kyle Walker. This would be a positive step.”

The move aligns with Everton’s desire to add both experience and depth to their defence without major financial outlay, as Moyes reshapes his squad for the upcoming season.

Everton Facing Defeat in Ferguson Chase

In other transfer developments, Everton appear set to lose out on their pursuit of Brighton forward Evan Ferguson.

Celtic have emerged as strong contenders to secure the 19-year-old on a season-long loan, reportedly pulling ahead of both Everton and Nottingham Forest.

According to ex-Man United and Blackburn scout Mick Brown, Brendan Rodgers is eager to bring Ferguson to Parkhead.

Celtic are confident their offer of regular first-team football and the lure of Champions League action could tip the scales in their favour.

While Everton had been pushing to bring in the young striker to bolster their attacking options, the promise of European competition and more consistent minutes could prove decisive in Celtic’s favour.
