Amadou Onana set to join Aston Villa from Everton. Branthwaite undoubtedly stood out as one of the Premier League’s top defenders last season and arguably Everton’s standout performer.
Alongside James Tarkowski and Jordan Pickford, Everton boasted one of the league’s strongest defenses under Sean Dyche. At just 22 years old, Branthwaite has ample room to grow and is a player Everton is reluctant to part with.
While they aren’t actively seeking to sell Onana, starting only two of the last six Premier League matches makes his departure seem more logical. Selling him for £50 million represents a significant profit, having acquired him for £33 million in 2022 (BBC Sport).
Losing a player of the Belgian international’s caliber and potential is a bitter pill to swallow but seems necessary this summer.
