EXCLUSIVE: Steve Cooper insists transfers are crucial to Leicester’s survival bid and non-negotiable

Former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has been appointed as Leicester City’s new boss following the departure of Enzo Maresca. Cooper, 44, signed a three-year deal to lead the Foxes and aims to secure their Premier League status amidst financial challenges.

Former Leicester striker Dion Dublin supports Cooper’s appointment but emphasizes the necessity of making strategic moves in the transfer market to avoid relegation. Dublin, who made 65 appearances for Leicester, praised Cooper’s energy and tactical ideas, recalling his successful tenure at Nottingham Forest.

In an interview with Mirror Football, Dublin expressed his optimism about Cooper’s impact on Leicester. He remarked, “I like Coops [Cooper], I do, I like him. I think he’s a good manager with lots of energy and ideas. Forest played some really good football under him, and I believe he’ll bring that style to Leicester. He’s a positive appointment for the club.”

Despite his approval of Cooper, Dublin insists that Leicester needs to be astute in the transfer market to maintain their Premier League status following their promotion. The club has yet to make any new signings after their EFL-enforced transfer embargo was lifted. However, key players Jamie Vardy and Jannik Vestergaard have secured new contracts, with Vardy extending for one year and Vestergaard for three years.

Leicester’s Premier League campaign begins against Tottenham on Monday, 19 August. The club has scheduled two pre-season friendlies against Shrewsbury and French side Lens in preparation for the season.
