Exclusive: Tottenham and Newcastle Enter Talks to Sign France’s Fastest Defender

Two Premier League clubs are seeking to strengthen their defensive lines in the upcoming transfer window and have identified Uzbekistan international Abdukodir Khusanov as a potential signing.

In October, TBR Football initially reported that Tottenham and Newcastle were both interested in Khusanov.

Now, with the January window approaching, the two clubs are intensifying their efforts to secure his signature.

Tottenham and Newcastle United have reportedly begun negotiations over a deal for Khusanov, according to TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey.

Both clubs have thoroughly scouted the 20-year-old and believe he is capable of adapting quickly to Premier League football. Khusanov is valued at around £25 million, including bonuses and add-ons.

TBR Football also reveals that Championship leaders Leeds United have entered the race and contacted Khusanov’s representatives in hopes of completing a surprise transfer.

However, sources suggest Khusanov is hesitant to move to a second-tier club, viewing it as a step down in his career.

Tottenham, in particular, are eager to add at least one new defender this month.

They have also reportedly explored the possibility of signing Japanese defender Ko Itakura, currently playing for Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany.

Khusanov’s exceptional speed adds to his appeal. He is the fastest defender in Ligue 1 and the fourth-fastest player overall this season, having clocked a top speed of 36.48 km/h.

Tottenham are particularly interested in defenders with similar attributes to Micky van de Ven, who recorded the fastest speed in the Premier League this season (37.12 km/h) during a match against Manchester United in October.

Khusanov’s pace and skillset could make him a valuable addition to Tottenham’s defense, either complementing or deputizing for Van de Ven in the future.
