Opinion: Tottenham Flop at 0% Could Cost Ange His Job, Must Be Dropped at Half-Time vs Frankfurt

Ange Postecoglou made a bold and questionable decision by leaving one key Tottenham player on the bench for their UEFA Europa League quarter-final clash against Frankfurt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday, April 10.

Fans were left frustrated by the manager’s call, which quickly came under scrutiny as Frankfurt opened the scoring within six minutes through Hugo Ekitike.

Thankfully for Spurs, they managed to respond midway through the first half.

Pedro Porro finished superbly from a James Maddison cross to level the score at 1-1 after 26 minutes.

The stakes are high for Tottenham. If they fail to lift the Europa League trophy this season, it’s believed that chairman Daniel Levy may consider sacking Postecoglou.

As such, the pressure is firmly on the Australian boss to deliver results.

With the tie delicately poised, Tottenham must make key adjustments at half-time to ensure they take an advantage into the second leg in Germany.

One such change could involve Brennan Johnson.

Despite early criticism of Maddison’s performance, his assist may have saved him from being substituted.

Postecoglou is now expected to look elsewhere to make improvements, and Johnson appears to be the obvious choice.

According to Sofascore, Johnson had a poor first half.

The Welsh international completed just 67% of his passes, managed only 13 touches, and was ineffective with his crossing and dribbling — completing zero per cent in both categories.

He also surrendered possession six times, adding to Tottenham’s struggles.

Tottenham cannot afford to head into the second leg without a lead, especially given the away challenge they’ll face in Germany.

With so much on the line, Postecoglou must act decisively during the break.

Spurs need at least one goal in the second half to strengthen their chances of reaching the Europa League semi-finals.
