King Suggests Wrexham Loan Move for Tottenham Striker This January

Several young Spurs players have left on loan this season, with 19-year-old center-back Alfie Dorrington being the latest to depart temporarily from North London.

Not all loan moves have been successful, however. Dane Scarlett was recently recalled from his season-long loan at Oxford United due to limited game time.

This decision, described as a “risk” by Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham, highlights the challenges of loan arrangements.

As reported by Alasdair Gold on X (20 January), Scarlett is likely to be loaned out again before the winter transfer window closes.

Former Spurs scout Bryan King, speaking to Tottenham News, suggested Wrexham as a possible destination.

“He initially went to a Championship club, but there was a management change,” King explained.

“Des Buckingham, who signed him for Oxford, was sacked, and Gary Rowett took over, clearly not favoring Scarlett.

To improve, Scarlett needs consistent playing time, ideally at another Championship club. However, a top League One team like Wrexham might also be a good fit.”

Wrexham, currently third in League One and vying for promotion, are reportedly searching for a new striker, according to the Wrexham Insider (19 January).

Scarlett’s move to the Welsh club could align with their needs.

Aston Villa’s Louie Barry recently thrived in League One while on loan at Stockport County, demonstrating that such moves can benefit young players.

Scarlett, too, could use this opportunity to prove his abilities to Spurs. Manager Ange Postecoglou may want to evaluate Scarlett’s potential, especially following an injury setback to Dominic Solanke.

At 20 years old, Scarlett has yet to establish himself as ready for first-team football in North London.
