Leeds United Close in on Double Signing as Premier League Return Nears
Leeds United are on the verge of securing a major double signing, with deals progressing for Inter Milan striker Mehdi Taremi and Leicester City attacker Bilal El Khannous.
As the Whites prepare for their Premier League return with an opening fixture against Everton in just 11 days, manager Daniel Farke is keen to add attacking reinforcements to bolster their survival hopes.
Despite already spending around £65 million on seven signings this summer, Leeds still lack proven firepower in the final third.
Addressing that, reports from Italy suggest that the club is close to finalising a move for 33-year-old Iranian international Mehdi Taremi.
The striker, who has 94 caps for Iran and 205 career goals in 447 appearances, is set to leave Inter Milan after struggling for game time behind Marcus Thuram and Lisandro Martinez.
Leeds are now strong favourites to beat West Ham and Nottingham Forest to his signature.
Taremi is best known for his prolific spell at FC Porto, where he netted 92 goals and registered 56 assists in 182 games.
His proven goal-scoring ability could make him an ideal No.9 for Leeds, particularly given the club’s need for experience and finishing quality at the top level.
Meanwhile, Leeds are also making progress in their pursuit of Leicester’s Bilal El Khannous. The 21-year-old Moroccan international, who can play as a left winger or No.10, impressed last season despite the Foxes’ relegation.
Though not prolific—scoring three goals and providing six assists in 37 appearances—his potential has attracted interest from Arsenal and Tottenham.
According to journalist Graham Smyth, Leeds are ready to activate El Khannous’ £24.5 million release clause, and the player himself is said to be “very interested” in a move to Elland Road, despite competition from bigger clubs.
In light of their move for Taremi, speculation linking Leeds with Al-Hilal’s Aleksandar Mitrovic appears wide of the mark.
Additionally, the club may reignite their interest in former Norwich winger Jonathan Rowe, who joined Marseille last summer, as an alternative if the El Khannous deal falls through.
Leeds are also working to strengthen at full-back and remain active in the market, determined to support Farke’s efforts to stabilise the club in the top flight.
