Leeds United embark on their campaign without Georginio Rutter, facing West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns today, with kickoff at 12:30 pm live on Sky Sports.
Following their early exit from the Carabao Cup midweek, United are aiming for their first win of the season in the Midlands.
However, history is not in their favor, as WBA secured a 1-0 victory in the same fixture last season.
Daniel Farke’s team had a 3-3 draw at home against newly-promoted Portsmouth on the opening weekend of the 2024/25 Championship season.
Reflecting on the game, Wales international Daniel James said, “We were disappointed after the first day.
We should have gotten more out of the Portsmouth game. We rescued a point at the end and maybe could have won it, but we’ve got things to work on.
“We need to be confident going into the next game. The mood is good, we still feel confident, there are so many games to go, and we’ll be ready for it.
“West Brom are a very good team, structured in their play, and hard to break down.
They have quality going forward, so we have to be aware of that and believe in ourselves while being mindful of their threats.
“As a player, you want to play games and get straight into it. After Wednesday night’s match against Middlesbrough, we want the next game quickly.”
Farke is expected to make significant changes to his starting lineup for their third game in eight days. James, Ilian Meslier, Jayden Bogle, Pascal Struijk, Ilia Gruev, Wilfried Gnonto, and Mateo Joseph are pushing for recalls.
A late decision will be made on Max Wober’s fitness. The Austrian international, who has a calf problem from the Middlesbrough game, is their only injury concern.
Likely to start on the bench, Wober can play left-back or center-half. Farke is expected to pair Struijk with Joe Rodon at center-back.
