Manchester United Dismiss Erik ten Hag, Appoint Interim Coach for Leicester City Clash

Manchester United have dismissed Erik ten Hag as manager ahead of their Carabao Cup clash with Leicester City.

After a disappointing start to the Premier League season, coupled with challenges from the previous campaign, United decided to part ways with the Dutch coach.

Assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will step in as interim manager and will lead the team for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup fourth-round match at Old Trafford.

In an official statement, United announced, “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.

Appointed in April 2022, Erik guided the team to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. We are grateful for Erik’s contributions and wish him well in his future endeavors.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over as interim head coach, supported by the existing coaching staff, as we look to appoint a permanent manager.”

This decision follows United’s 2-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday, where Jarrod Bowen scored a penalty in injury time, marking United’s fourth defeat in nine Premier League games.

The result placed them 14th in the standings, just two points and one spot above Leicester.

Leicester will face United not only on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup but also in the Premier League, as they return to Old Trafford on Sunday, November 10, for their final match before the international break.
