Leicester City boss shares his reaction after second consecutive defeat as poor run stretches to just one win in eight games
Marti Cifuentes has pledged to “give something back” to Leicester City’s fans after facing an angry away contingent following their 1-0 defeat to Millwall.
The result marked City’s second consecutive loss and extended their poor run to just one win in eight matches, plunging morale among players and supporters alike.
At full-time, as Cifuentes and his squad approached the 3,000 travelling fans, they were met with boos and visible frustration rather than applause.
Speaking after the game, Cifuentes admitted his emotions mirrored those of the supporters and expressed his determination to turn things around.
“I feel the same anger as the fans,” he said. “I’m the first to be frustrated—both with the result and with the performance. The fans’ reaction is understandable.
The fact that 3,000 of them travelled shows their incredible commitment, and I’m extremely determined to give them something back.
“We’ve said from the start that this rebuilding process would take time. It’s never easy to change things overnight.
But I completely understand their frustration because we need to do better, both in our performances and our results.”
City’s defeat came after a bright opening spell, during which they failed to take advantage of early opportunities.
Once Femi Azeez struck for Millwall just before halftime, Leicester rarely looked capable of finding an equaliser.
“It wasn’t the result we wanted,” Cifuentes admitted. “We were looking for a reaction after Tuesday’s loss. The first 15 minutes were quite good—we started well but couldn’t score.
Millwall then grew into the game, using set-pieces and long throws to shift the momentum.
They pressed more aggressively, and we struggled to exploit the space behind them. Conceding late in the first half was very disappointing.”
At halftime, Cifuentes urged his players to attack more directly through Aaron Ramsey and Jordan James, but the plan quickly unraveled when Ramsey suffered a muscular injury early in the second half.
“As the game went on, it became more emotional,” he explained.
“We tried several changes—first switching to a back three, then moving Abdul (Fatawu) and Silko (Thomas) to their natural wings to create more space between the goalkeeper and the defensive line. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.”
Cifuentes concluded by giving credit to Millwall for their defensive discipline and ability to dictate the tempo.
“They defended very well,” he said. “They played the game on their terms, and we couldn’t find a way to change that.”
