Chelsea have reportedly engaged in discussions with the agent of Jonathan David, who is also being targeted by Tottenham in this summer’s transfer window as the player seeks a move away from Lille.
According to Simon Phillips on his Substack, the agent of the Canada international is actively seeking a transfer for his client, sparking numerous rumors. David could be a valuable addition for Chelsea, who need an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson next season. However, some fans might argue that the club could aim for a higher-profile signing than the Lille forward.
David, 24, has been quite productive in Ligue 1, netting 19 goals in 34 league matches last season and 24 goals in 37 games the season before. Whether he can replicate this success in the Premier League remains uncertain, but he arrives with a more proven track record than Jackson did at Stamford Bridge.
Explaining the situation, Chelsea expert Phillips said, “Regarding Jonathan David, it appears his agent is currently promoting him to various clubs in search of a suitor this summer. David is eager to make a significant move and is attracted by the Premier League. Sources have confirmed that David’s agent has spoken to several clubs, including Chelsea and Tottenham.”
“There is indeed interest from Chelsea, which has persisted through both the current and previous ownerships, but as of Tuesday morning, nothing has progressed beyond agent discussions. We’ll have to see if it develops further, but it’s mostly been a matter of his agent exploring potential opportunities. Sources believe he might end up at Spurs, but Chelsea’s interest cannot be dismissed.”
Tottenham could also be a favorable destination for David, where he would likely receive regular playing time as a potential successor to Harry Kane up front.
