“‘No need for disappointment’ – Tottenham player urged to dismiss exit plans and remain patient”
Tottenham's young talent Lucas Bergvall advised to stay patient as he progresses on the right path.
Fotbollskanalen’s Premier League expert, Olof Lundh, believes that speculations about a potential loan for Tottenham’s young talent Hugo Bergvall are unfounded.
The 18-year-old Swedish player joined Tottenham in July on a €10 million transfer from Djurgården, after a keen contest for his signature earlier in the year.
Tottenham sees Bergvall as a long-term investment, fitting into their strategy of securing young talent for future development.
Bergvall has also featured in Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the current season. He has made nine appearances across various competitions, totaling 258 minutes on the pitch.
Three of these appearances were starts, where he played 65 minutes against Ferencváros, 73 against AZ Alkmaar, and 62 against Coventry City.
The remaining appearances were mainly as a substitute, particularly in the Premier League.
Lundh believes Bergvall should feel encouraged by this progress and avoid considering a loan move for now.
“He must be patient. Everything is moving in the right direction,” Lundh explained.
“It’s rare for players to transition from Allsvenskan to the Premier League and immediately secure a spot.
At his age, with limited experience at the highest level in Sweden, patience is crucial,” Lundh emphasized.
He further noted that even with Bergvall’s rapid growth, pushing for a loan at this stage would be premature. “I wouldn’t advocate for a loan until spring at the earliest.
Tottenham plays a lot of games, and openings could arise with an injury or similar opportunity,” he added.
Lundh advised Bergvall not to feel disheartened, pointing to Fredrik Ljungberg’s early success with Arsenal as an exception rather than the norm.
He highlighted the substantial gap between Allsvenskan and the Premier League, suggesting that Bergvall should view each minute played in his first season as a valuable bonus.
“Everything still points in the right direction for him,” Lundh concluded, suggesting that Tottenham’s young talent is on a promising path.
