Postecoglou Under Pressure as Tottenham Struggle with Injuries and Form

Mick Brown, a former chief scout at Manchester United and Blackburn with strong ties to his former clubs, has emphasized that Tottenham must improve their results before the end of the season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Brown warned that while key injured players are set to return, it may take weeks for them to regain full match fitness as the campaign enters its final stretch.

Back in January, Brown had stated that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was willing to remain patient with Ange Postecoglou until the club’s injury crisis eased.

However, he now expresses concerns that results may not improve in time, even as players return to action.

Spurs recently suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League, followed by a frustrating 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, adding more pressure on Postecoglou.

Cristian Romero made his return to the starting lineup against Bournemouth but looked off the pace, struggling in the early stages of the game.

Injury Comebacks Pose Challenges for Postecoglou

Brown previously warned that mounting fan pressure could lead Levy to consider Postecoglou’s future, especially with recent calls for the chairman to step down.

Having worked with elite managers like Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson during Manchester United’s golden era, Brown believes Postecoglou must secure better results soon.

“Relying on injured players returning is one thing, but we’re already in the final stages of the season,” he told Football Insider.

“These players need game time to regain match fitness and form.

You saw it with Romero against Bournemouth—he looked like he had never played before, making mistakes that could have cost the team. That’s natural after a long absence, but it’s still a major problem.”

“Just assuming that these players will return and instantly solve everything is risky.

It could take four or five games for someone like Van de Ven to get back up to speed.

If results don’t improve even after these players return, serious questions will be asked about the manager.”

“Postecoglou has no choice but to reintegrate them, but it’s tough when they’re not fully fit. They need time, but he doesn’t necessarily have that luxury.

Spurs need to start winning more games in the coming weeks, or the pressure will only increase, forcing the club into a tough decision.”

Despite the growing uncertainty around Postecoglou’s future, Tottenham are already planning significant moves in the summer transfer window.
