The Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals have reportedly reached a trade agreement. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Red Sox will send reliever John Schreiber to the Royals in exchange for minor league pitcher David Sandlin.
Kansas City has had a productive offseason, securing talent and recently signing star Bobby Witt Jr. to a long-term contract extension. The addition of Schreiber is expected to provide a significant boost to the Royals’ bullpen.
Schreiber, a 29-year-old right-handed pitcher, made his MLB debut in 2019 with the Detroit Tigers and joined the Red Sox in 2021, appearing in just one game that season. In 2022, Schreiber showcased his abilities as a quality MLB reliever, posting an impressive 2.22 ERA and 0.985 WHIP across 64 appearances. While his performance dipped slightly in 2023, he still managed a respectable 3.86 ERA.
On the other side of the trade, David Sandlin, a promising 22-year-old right-handed pitching prospect, adds excitement to the Red Sox’s minor league system. Despite facing injury challenges in 2023, Sandlin made 14 starts, concluding the season with a 3.51 ERA and 87 strikeouts. This exchange highlights the teams’ strategic moves to strengthen their respective rosters.
