Jordan Ayew has quickly formed an exciting partnership following his transfer to Leicester City
The veteran will bring experience to the Foxes' squad—plus, he has already supported one teammate.
Jordan Ayew has already established a connection with a Leicester City teammate.
The 32-year-old joined Steve Cooper’s squad on Friday and made his debut for the Foxes the following day in a defeat against Fulham at Craven Cottage, coming on in the 63rd minute to replace Bobby De Cordova Reid.
In his first interview as a Leicester City player, Ayew spoke about his existing bond with Abdul Fatawu, who also signed a permanent deal with the club earlier in the summer after a successful loan spell during the Championship-winning season.
Despite their 12-year age difference, Ayew and Fatawu have built a strong relationship through their time together with the Ghana national team.
Ayew expressed his eagerness to support Fatawu and the rest of the squad, stating to LCFC, “I’m really happy for him because he has done really well since he first came in, and I’m really proud of him.
He’s young and has many years ahead of him, but I’m here to help not only him but everyone.”
He continued, “We have experience, and we need to support the younger players, but I also expect them to support me; it’s all about teamwork.
When you join a new club, you want to settle in and ensure that everyone is happy.”
Ayew emphasized his commitment to proving himself and contributing to the team’s success, saying, “You have to prove yourself, and that’s something I’m keen on doing.
I’m humbled and want to ensure I perform well, so everyone has a great season, and I help whoever needs it to perform.”
As with any player stepping up to the top flight, there are initial uncertainties.
Last season, Fatawu stood out under Enzo Maresca, contributing 13 assists and six goals.
He showcased his talent in the 1-1 draw against Spurs in the season’s opening week, with a precise cross setting up Jamie Vardy’s goal.
For Leicester, Ayew’s experience could be crucial in navigating what promises to be a challenging season.
With a nine-year Premier League career spanning Aston Villa, Swansea City, Crystal Palace, and now Leicester, Ayew brings valuable know-how.
His impressive record includes nearly 35 Premier League appearances per season over the past five years.
Ayew’s presence will add much-needed experience to a Leicester squad with an average age of under 26, potentially aiding the team’s efforts to secure survival in a demanding campaign.
