According to a recent report from French outlet Foot Mercato, 29-year-old midfielder Glen Kamara has emerged as a potential target for Leicester City ahead of the winter transfer window.

Martí Cifuentes’ side are pushing hard for promotion back to the Premier League and could use the January window to strengthen their squad for the second half of the campaign.

However, the Foxes face competition for Kamara’s signature, with Ipswich Town and Ligue 1 side Nice also expressing interest in the Finland international.

Kamara is no stranger to the Championship, having spent the 2023/24 season with Leeds United. During that campaign, he made 37 appearances and helped the Whites finish third in the table.

Despite his experience and proven quality at this level, not everyone connected to Leicester believes that signing Kamara should be a top priority this winter.

Leicester fan pundit Louchlainn Martin, speaking to Football League World, said that while Kamara is a dependable midfielder, the club already has considerable depth in that area.

He instead highlighted other areas of the squad that require more immediate reinforcement.

“I’ve seen the rumours linking Leicester with Glen Kamara, and while I think he’s a pretty solid midfielder at Championship level, I’m not sure midfield is the position that needs strengthening most,” Martin said.

“A left-back should definitely be one of the priorities this season, and I’d also say a striker is essential if the right one is available.”

Martin went on to note that Leicester already possess several quality midfielders, including Harry Winks, Boubakary Soumaré, Jordan James, and Oliver Skipp. “Our midfield options are strong enough right now,” he added.

“If Kamara were available for the right price, then perhaps it would make sense, but there are other areas that should come before that.”

Kamara’s recent form might also give Leicester pause for thought. Since joining Rennes in the summer of 2024, the midfielder has struggled to make an impact, featuring just 13 times in Ligue 1.

He was loaned out to Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab in January 2025, where he also made 13 appearances before returning to France.

This season, however, he has yet to feature for Rennes, with reports suggesting that the French club could allow him to leave for around €3 million (£2.6 million).

Given his current lack of playing time and dip in form, Leicester might prefer to pursue Kamara only if a loan deal can be arranged.

While his previous Championship experience at Leeds makes him a reliable option, committing significant funds for a permanent move may not be wise considering the club’s more pressing needs elsewhere.

Leicester, currently sitting third in the Championship table, will next face Portsmouth at the King Power Stadium in a Saturday evening clash, as they look to maintain their strong promotion push.

In summary, while Glen Kamara could provide useful depth and experience, signing him should not be a major focus for Leicester in January.

Strengthening at left-back and up front remains the club’s greater priority as they continue their pursuit of Premier League football.
