While Erling Haaland dominated for the champions, Beto was wasteful in front of goal, missing key chances that could have changed the game’s outcome. Speaking after the match, Moyes expressed his frustration:
“I think the one he doesn’t get to, he should get to. The one that was given offside was onside, I think, and ultimately we get a VAR decision if it goes in. The first chance – we’re studs away from getting a goal.”
With that in mind, it’s clear Moyes and the club hierarchy see the January window as an opportunity to strengthen up front.
Everton preparing a big-money move for Ivan Toney
According to Football Insider, Everton are now seriously interested in signing Ivan Toney from Al-Ahli.
The 29-year-old forward, who previously starred for Brentford in the Premier League, reportedly wants to return to England in hopes of securing a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Toney’s camp is said to favour a move to Merseyside over West Ham United, giving Everton a significant edge in the race for his signature. However, financial hurdles remain a major obstacle.
The striker currently earns around £22 million per year in Saudi Arabia — a figure that would make him Everton’s top earner by over £10 million.
A permanent deal would likely be beyond the club’s reach unless Toney agrees to a substantial pay cut or Al-Ahli agree to subsidise part of his wages in a loan arrangement.
Nevertheless, with his intelligence, hold-up play, and clinical finishing — qualities praised by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank — Toney is exactly the type of forward Everton need.
The big question is whether financial realities will allow Moyes and The Friedkin Group to pull off what would be a blockbuster January signing.
