Newcastle and West Ham are both aiming to return to European competition next season, and they’re targeting similar players in the transfer market.
Both clubs are seeking talent that can elevate their squads. Recently, both Newcastle and West Ham have shown interest in Fikayo Tomori. Ben Jacobs, speaking on NUFC Matters, suggests that one club has taken the lead in this transfer race.
Jacobs indicates that West Ham is currently ahead of Newcastle in the pursuit of Tomori. The journalist provided insights about the £25 million defender and the two Premier League clubs interested in him.
When asked about the latest on Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori, Jacobs replied, “I think with the Tomori situation, I’m told West Ham are more the ones to watch there at the moment.”
Despite West Ham’s current lead, Tomori might prefer a move to Newcastle. Newcastle’s project is more advanced than West Ham’s, and they have a player who is already a close friend of Tomori.
Sandro Tonali, who recently joined Newcastle, has a strong friendship with Tomori. The defender spoke highly of Tonali last season before a match against Newcastle.
“Obviously it will be nice to see him again. We played many games together. It will be nice to see him again so soon after his departure.
However, we are professionals; when the game starts, friendship doesn’t exist,” Tomori said. “We want to win, after the game we can start being friends again. During the game we are not friends.”
As West Ham and Newcastle compete for Tomori, the AC Milan star might return to the Premier League this summer.
