Report: Club May Reverse Decision on ‘Unbelievable’ Player Postecoglou Wants for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur may face a new setback in their pursuit of a key transfer target for manager Ange Postecoglou this summer.

The club is gearing up for a busy off-season in north London. Postecoglou’s squad has already offloaded five players on free transfers, with Tanguy Ndombele the latest to depart, following Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga, and Ivan Perisic who were released last week.

While Timo Werner’s loan from RB Leipzig has been extended for another season, Spurs still need to address several crucial areas of their squad. Postecoglou aims to strengthen the team by adding a defender, a central midfielder, and a striker.

One of his primary targets for the midfield is Conor Gallagher, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham for some time. The Chelsea star, with just a year left on his contract, was expected to be sold this summer. Chelsea, under financial pressure to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), seemed likely to sell him.

However, according to The Guardian, Chelsea might reconsider their stance on Gallagher. The report suggests that the club is contemplating retaining the ‘unbelievable’ midfielder and may offer him a new contract. This potential change in Chelsea’s plans poses a challenge for Spurs and Aston Villa, both of whom are interested in Gallagher.

There has been a noticeable shift in the situation surrounding Gallagher, who was previously expected to leave. Additionally, Gallagher has expressed a preference to stay with Chelsea, his boyhood club, having come through their academy.

This development complicates Tottenham’s transfer plans as they look to reinforce their squad under Postecoglou’s direction.
