Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly lining up a 2026 move for a powerful forward well known to head coach Thomas Frank, though TEAMtalk sources suggest that a January signing could ultimately derail those long-term plans.

Recruiting a natural left-sided forward remains one of Spurs’ top priorities for the new year after failing to adequately replace club legend Son Heung-min, who departed for MLS in the summer.

Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert have both been given opportunities on the left flank without convincing, while Mathys Tel has primarily operated through the middle and was even omitted from Tottenham’s Champions League squad.

Meanwhile, summer signing Xavi Simons has been redeployed in the No.10 role in the absence of Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison, leaving the team short of top-level options opposite the impressive Mohammed Kudus.

Tottenham’s hierarchy are expected to commit major funds to strengthen that side of the pitch, with several names being discussed internally.

Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman remain the two leading candidates, but new reports from Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany claim that Spurs are also monitoring Brentford attacker Kevin Schade.

Plettenberg reports that Tottenham are one of several clubs tracking the 23-year-old German, who has shone at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Schade hit 11 goals and provided two assists in 38 appearances under Frank at Brentford last season and opened his account for the current campaign with a strike in the 2-2 draw against Chelsea in September.

Frank has previously labelled Schade “unbelievable,” and Tottenham are said to view him as a potential summer 2026 target.

However, given the team’s current lack of productivity on the left wing, a new arrival in January appears far more urgent.

It remains unclear whether Brentford would consider selling Schade mid-season, meaning Spurs could instead turn their focus back to other targets.

TEAMtalk insider Dean Jones reports that Semenyo remains Tottenham’s preferred option, though the Cherries forward would command a sizeable fee, and it would take a major bid to tempt Bournemouth into selling in January.

Semenyo’s versatility across the front line and his connection with Ghana international teammate Kudus make him an ideal fit for Frank’s attacking system.

Lookman, on the other hand, has recently regained his place at Atalanta after a failed summer exit.

The Nigerian came close to joining Spurs late in the previous transfer window, but negotiations collapsed when Tottenham pursued a loan deal while the Serie A side insisted on a permanent transfer.

Should Spurs land a new winger this winter, a future move for Schade may no longer be necessary.

Tottenham return to Premier League action next Sunday when they host Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
