£11M Superstar Wanted by AC Milan Could Become 49ers’ Stunning First Blockbuster Signing at Rangers!

Interestingly, it’s been the budget-friendly signings who have made the biggest impact at Rangers recently.
However, to truly build a competitive squad, the club must also target experienced and reliable talent—even if there’s always some element of risk involved.
While no signing comes without risk—especially at the more affordable end of the market—a familiar name has surfaced as a potential addition who wouldn’t need much of an introduction.
According to MLS Transfers on X, Rangers are among several clubs reportedly interested in signing Giovanni Reyna from Borussia Dortmund.
The connection is easy to make. Named after a former Rangers player and manager, and the son of U.S. legend Claudio Reyna, Giovanni’s links to the club run deep.
But at 22 years old, the American international wouldn’t come cheap.
Sky Sports Germany previously reported that AC Milan showed interest in Reyna during the January window, with Dortmund valuing him at over £11 million.
The attacker, capped 32 times for the U.S., is expected to move on from the Bundesliga this summer.
Reyna has been to Ibrox before, but injuries have significantly hindered his progress.
His playing time has been limited—just 594 minutes in 2024/25 and 592 in 2023/24.
In fact, he’s only surpassed 1,000 minutes once since the 2021/22 campaign.
In a curious bit of history, Reyna was also signed by former Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson at Nottingham Forest, further intertwining his story with the club.
Unlike some of Rangers’ more unfortunate recent signings, Reyna hasn’t endured severe ankle or knee issues.
Instead, his setbacks have been a series of muscle injuries—a concern in its own right.
With only a year left on his current Dortmund contract, paying over £11 million may be unrealistic for Rangers, particularly considering Reyna’s limited availability in recent years.
The involvement of the San Francisco 49ers in a future club takeover may bring added financial clout, but not to the extent of justifying a large fee for a player who’s only managed the equivalent of around 10 full matches across two seasons.
MLS clubs are also reportedly monitoring Reyna’s situation.
A move to a less physically demanding league might be beneficial, giving him the consistency and minutes he needs.
Despite his sporadic appearances, the 6-foot playmaker recently featured in Dortmund’s dramatic Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona, hinting that the talent is still there—if he can stay fit.
