A Bundesliga club is reportedly “ready” to sign a key Rangers player this summer, with the Glasgow side valuing him at over £20 million, according to a new report.

Rangers’ Europa League journey came to a disappointing end on Thursday night following a 2-0 defeat to Athletic Club.

The Scottish side had hoped to return to Bilbao in May for the final, but goals from Oihan Sancet and Nico Williams in each half sealed Athletic’s place in the semi-finals, where they will face Manchester United.

With the European campaign over, attention at Ibrox will shift toward the 2025/26 season.

Rangers also face domestic concerns, sitting 15 points behind Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Off the pitch, significant changes are underway, with 49ers Enterprises progressing in their bid to complete a takeover of the club.

However, concerns have been raised about the American investors’ understanding of the club and its deeply rooted fan culture.

Former Aberdeen CEO Keith Wyness shared insight into the situation, suggesting the 49ers may be underestimating the emotional and cultural weight that comes with managing Rangers.

“I’m hearing from my sources at Rangers that the 49ers see this more as a business transaction,” Wyness said.

“They don’t seem to fully grasp what they’re stepping into—the passionate fanbase, the sectarian dynamics, and the intense religious connections tied to the club.

“The Rangers supporters are incredibly passionate. It’s one thing to witness it occasionally, but to invest successfully, you need to live it, understand it.

It’s a very unique and powerful environment. I’m not sure the 49ers comprehend that aspect just yet.”

One of the immediate priorities for the 49ers, should their takeover be finalized, will be the appointment of a new permanent manager.

They may also be forced to deal with several key player departures.

For instance, striker Hamza Igamane has been linked with a move to Marseille, while veteran defender Leon Balogun is expected to leave on a free transfer as his contract nears its end.

The most significant development involves midfielder Nicolas Raskin.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, as relayed by Sport Witness, Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach are prepared to make a move for the Belgian international during the upcoming transfer window.

Raskin, who has been with Rangers for over two years, is reportedly valued at more than £20 million.

While it’s unclear whether Rangers are willing to sell, Monchengladbach are said to be seriously interested.

The 23-year-old recently hinted at a desire to test himself at a higher level, particularly with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon.

“I’ve been here for two and a half years, and things have gone well, especially this season,” Raskin said.

“You always have to consider what the club wants, what offers come in, and try to do what’s best for everyone.

“As a footballer, you want to keep improving and looking ahead.

If you want to give yourself the best shot at playing in an international tournament, you need to be playing at a big club.

But you also don’t want to move somewhere you won’t play regularly. It’s about finding that right balance.”

Given his comments and the interest from Germany, Raskin’s future could be one of the major storyline for Rangers this summer.
