Rangers Close In on Gassama as Diangana Emerges as New Target
Glasgow Rangers are on the verge of completing another signing as their summer rebuild under manager Russell Martin continues at pace.
With Max Aarons, Lyall Cameron, Joe Rothwell, Emmanuel Fernandez, and Thelo Aasgaard already added to strengthen the squad, the club is actively pursuing further reinforcements to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title.
One of the next arrivals could be Sheffield Wednesday’s 21-year-old winger, Djeidi Gassama.
A deal has reportedly been agreed between the two clubs, and personal terms with the player have also been settled.
Gassama, a product of the Paris Saint-Germain academy, is expected to complete his move to Ibrox imminently.
Gassama impressed in the English Championship last season, scoring seven goals from 5.92 expected goals (xG). His pace, dribbling, and direct style make him a promising threat on the left flank.
Given Rangers’ lack of consistent output from their current left-wingers, Gassama could fill a key gap in Martin’s attack.
Hamza Igamane, mainly a striker, was the only winger to exceed four goals in that role last season.
In addition to Gassama, Rangers are also eyeing Grady Diangana, who is available on a free transfer after leaving West Bromwich Albion.
The 27-year-old DR Congo international is attracting interest from clubs including Wolves, Valencia, and Saudi side Al Ettifaq.
However, reports suggest Diangana is seriously considering a move to Ibrox.
Diangana, known for his versatility, has played across the front three and as an attacking midfielder.
Though his form dipped in 2024/25, he has shown quality in the past and could be a valuable rotational player.
His experience could provide crucial support to the developing Gassama while also offering an alternative when needed.
If both signings are completed, Martin would have two strong options for the left flank—Gassama as a potential first-choice and Diangana as a versatile, experienced backup.
At his best, Diangana could rediscover the form that once earned him praise as “unplayable,” while at minimum, he adds depth and flexibility to Rangers’ attacking unit.
