Rangers join the race for Mbuyamba
Rangers are reportedly eyeing a move for Xavier Mbuyamba, a highly-rated 23-year-old centre-back who developed through the youth systems at both Barcelona and Chelsea.
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano (15 July), the Dutch defender is available for transfer after his current club, Volendam, listed him for sale.
The Eredivisie side are said to be asking for a modest £434,000 fee after Mbuyamba declined to sign a contract extension.
Mbuyamba’s arrival could spell the end for Propper
Should Rangers secure a deal for Mbuyamba, it could mark the end of Robin Propper’s short-lived stint at the club.
The 31-year-old Dutchman joined just last summer but has struggled to make an impact under both Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson.
Despite links to a return to FC Twente, no deal has yet materialised. However, with Rangers already bringing in Nasser Djiga and Fernandes in defensive roles, the arrival of another centre-back would likely push Propper further down the pecking order.
Questions also remain over John Souttar’s future. With his contract expiring next summer and reported interest from Turkish side Trabzonspor, the club may be tempted to cash in now rather than risk losing him for free.
