A former Rangers and Sheffield United goalkeeper has become the latest ex-Ibrox player to continue his career abroad after parting ways with West Ham United earlier this summer.

Wes Foderingham, now 34, joined the Hammers in 2024 on a free transfer, serving primarily as back-up in London before deciding to move on.

His time at the London Stadium was relatively short, but it added to a career that has seen him amass extensive experience in both English and Scottish football.

Prior to joining West Ham, he had enjoyed a successful spell at Sheffield United, where he clocked up 112 appearances across four seasons, including 30 in the Premier League.

Before his stint in Yorkshire, Foderingham had firmly established himself at Rangers, where he featured between 2015 and 2020.

During his five years at Ibrox, he made 143 appearances and played a key role in the club’s climb back to the top of Scottish football.

That spell followed a standout period at Swindon Town, where he became a fan favourite after joining from Crystal Palace and helping the Wiltshire club secure promotion from League Two in the 2011-12 campaign.

It has now been confirmed that Foderingham will continue his career in Cyprus with Aris Limassol, a club that already has a notable Rangers connection.

He will link up with Ross McCausland, Connor Goldson, and Leon Balogun, all of whom previously pulled on the Light Blue jersey.

Aris Limassol announced the signing in a statement:

Born on January 14, 1991, Wesley Andrew Foderingham arrives after his contract with West Ham expired.

He began his career in the youth academies of Fulham and Crystal Palace and spent time on loan with lower-league clubs before making his name at Swindon Town.

“In the 2011-12 season, he played a decisive role in Swindon’s League Two title win and subsequent promotion, going on to make 191 appearances for the club.

He then moved north to Rangers in 2015, where he played for five years, racking up 143 games. From 2020 until 2024, he represented Sheffield United, featuring 112 times, 30 of those in the English Premier League.

The experienced shot-stopper has also represented England at under-16, under-17 and under-19 levels. We welcome Wes Foderingham to the Aris Limassol family and wish him every success.”

Reflecting on his time at Rangers, Foderingham previously told the Daily Mirror:

“Rangers is a massive club. You’re surrounded by top players, and you only have to look at their recent results in Europe, like beating Borussia Dortmund, to see their stature.

The fans are incredible but also extremely demanding, so you have to be on your game every week. Playing there made me grow up quickly and shaped me into a stronger character.

“It was also clear from day one how good Steven Gerrard was as a manager.

He had a strong coaching team, pushed standards every day, and the way he set up his sides showed he was destined to manage at the very top. Nobody should be surprised by the success he’s gone on to achieve.”
