Leicester City Aiming to Finalize £21m Transfer Deal ‘Next Week’ Following New Bid – Journalist

Leicester City are steadily preparing for their return to the Premier League after securing promotion from the Championship in the 2023/24 season.

New manager Steve Cooper is keen to strengthen his squad and has focused on signing midfielders following the departure of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea, where he reunited with former Leicester boss Enzo Maresca.

One key target for Leicester is Matt O’Riley, who is increasingly likely to join the club as Dewsbury-Hall’s replacement. Another area of focus is the pursuit of a young winger to bolster the squad.

Leicester City Makes Improved Bid for Matias Soule

Juventus’ Matias Soule had initially seemed set to remain in Serie A with Roma this summer. However, Leicester City has re-entered the race with a new offer for the Argentine winger, according to John Percy on X.

Leicester is reportedly hopeful of finalizing a deal soon, with a new bid of around £21 million, including £17 million up front, for Soule. The 21-year-old spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Frosinone, where he was the club’s top scorer in Serie A despite their relegation to Serie B. Soule’s loan spell also saw him alongside new Leicester signing Caleb Okoli.

Should Leicester City Persist with Soule?

Soule has expressed a preference to stay in Serie A, but Leicester remains interested in bringing him to the King Power Stadium. Although signing Soule could be a significant coup for Cooper and provide long-term benefits for the club, there are potential drawbacks to consider.

Soule might view Leicester as a stepping-stone rather than a long-term destination, given his potential to play at the Champions League level and represent Argentina internationally in the future. His reluctance to join Leicester could set a negative precedent and affect team morale.

Even if Soule commits fully to his role at Leicester, there is a risk that his initial reluctance could impact his motivation and performance. While the signing of Soule could still prove to be a valuable asset, Cooper must weigh these potential issues against the benefits of adding a player of Soule’s calibre to the squad.
