The franchise arm of the San Francisco 49ers, led by Paraag Marathe, has reached an agreement in principle to acquire at least 51% of Rangers.
The deal is expected to be finalized before the start of the 2025-26 season, raising hopes among supporters that new signings will arrive before the campaign begins.
Former player and pundit Derek Ferguson believes the 49ers may opt to make Vaclav Cerny’s loan move permanent this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Ferguson suggested that the new owners could be tempted by the Wolfsburg winger’s performances.
Cerny has impressed this season, scoring 15 goals and providing four assists in 34 appearances across the Scottish Premiership and Europa League.
Ferguson stated: “Cerny’s stats are really good, and he’s certainly been one of Rangers’ better players this season. It’s something the club will need to assess.
A couple of weeks ago, I’d have said no chance, but if the 49ers are involved by the end of the season, I’d like to see him stay. If the fee is around £6m, I’m sure they’ll go for it.”
Although the takeover has yet to be officially confirmed, all signs point to it being completed in the coming months.
With Rangers falling further behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, significant changes will be required to close the gap.
The team has struggled this season, but a few players have stood out, including Cerny.
