A joint statement from Blue Heaven Holdings and The Friedkin Group read: “Following a period of exclusivity, discussions between Blue Heaven Holdings and The Friedkin Group over a potential sale of a majority stake in Everton have ended, and The Friedkin Group will not be progressing with the purchase of the Club. Both parties agree it is in their mutual interest for Everton to explore other options.
“The Friedkin Group will remain a lender to the Club and is proud to have played a crucial role in the new stadium’s construction, which will support a bright future for Everton and the City of Liverpool. Blue Heaven Holdings maintains a positive relationship with The Friedkin Group and appreciates their effort in this process.”
The failed takeover could impact Everton’s on-pitch performance. According to Paul Joyce of The Times (via Goodison News), Everton is now looking to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin amid interest from West Ham and Newcastle United. While Calvert-Lewin has previously been valued at £40 million, the urgency created by the takeover’s collapse might influence that figure.
Everton Should Consider Selling “Excellent” Calvert-Lewin
With just one year remaining on his contract, which reportedly pays him £100,000 per week, it makes sense for Everton to consider selling Calvert-Lewin this summer if they can secure their asking price. Although the forward showed flashes of his best form last season and received praise from Sean Dyche, Everton’s acquisition of Iliman Ndiaye might reduce their reliance on Calvert-Lewin’s fitness.
After Calvert-Lewin’s impressive performance, including a goal in a 2-0 Merseyside derby victory over Liverpool, Dyche remarked (via BBC Sport): “I thought he was excellent. His physical performance was outstanding.”
