The journalist reported on his personal X account (8 December) that Everton’s activity in the winter transfer window would depend on a “couple” of factors.
However, with the Friedkin Group takeover imminent, the club could still make moves.
After a summer of heavy spending that brought players like Jake O’Brien and Iliman Ndiaye to Goodison Park, Everton currently sits 15th in the Premier League, fueling speculation about potential January signings.
“Depends on a couple of things, to be honest, but I would think defence and winger would be likely,” he wrote.
Reinforcements appear necessary for Everton and manager Sean Dyche this January.
While the Toffees have occasionally shown their quality by securing important wins, their precarious position just five points above the relegation zone is cause for concern.
Dyche’s position as manager has faced significant scrutiny this season, though the pending ownership change likely contributed to his retention.
Despite the challenges, Dyche still seems like the right leader for the club.
Last season, he successfully navigated one of the most difficult periods in Everton’s history, steering the team through point deductions resulting from two separate breaches of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
