Finance Expert: TFG likely prioritizing contract talks with Everton player set for potential exit

Farhad Moshiri has agreed to sell his controlling stake in Everton to the owners of AS Roma, with the deal expected to close by year-end, though certain aspects remain outside The Friedkin Group’s (TFG) control, as reported by Ben Jacobs on October 26.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract at Everton runs out at the end of the season.

Although Kieran Maguire, football finance expert, doesn’t foresee a resolution before the takeover is finalized, he believes that TFG’s involvement could positively influence negotiations.

“It could be beneficial; that’s the best way to phrase it,” Maguire told Goodison News. “A number of factors are at play.

New ownership would likely prioritize reviewing squad contracts: which are up for renewal and how they plan to structure the squad moving forward.”

Maguire added that the player’s perspective is also essential. “Is Calvert-Lewin observing the ownership transition?

Might he want to see what unfolds before committing to a new deal? Those questions are relevant.”

Maguire continued, “New ownership may or may not make changes in the managerial and backroom staff or the board, depending on the model they want to implement.

This creates uncertainty, with both sides waiting to see what happens next.”

While initial discussions could take place, Maguire noted that finances would be critical, and it’s common for clubs undergoing takeovers to experience a waiting period, with all parties seeking clarity on the new direction.

Once The Friedkin Group assumes control, they’ll face numerous decisions, including evaluating Sean Dyche’s future as he nears the end of his contract.

These won’t be straightforward choices, but Everton’s incoming owners are expected to act quickly to make their mark on the club once they take the reins at Goodison Park.
