INEOS, the petrochemicals giant led by Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, first linked up with Tottenham Hotspur in 2020 as the club’s official hand sanitiser and 4×4 vehicle partner.

The agreement expanded in 2022, with INEOS branding becoming a visible feature around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, including the dugout area.

However, the relationship between the two parties appears to have soured.

In February, INEOS entered discussions to withdraw from the sponsorship deal early, in line with Ratcliffe’s wider efforts to reduce spending across his business empire.

By mid-March, the Daily Mail reported that Tottenham and INEOS had agreed to an early termination package that would see Spurs compensated with a multi-million-pound settlement.

Yet, despite those talks, it appears the matter has not been resolved smoothly.

On 12 June, Tottenham filed a commercial claim after INEOS exited the partnership just three years into what was originally a five-year agreement.

While the claim has been officially lodged, supporting documents or specifics of the case are not yet publicly available.

Financial expert Stefan Borson spoke exclusively to Football Insider, explaining that such disputes are common and likely to be settled out of court.

He noted that the disagreement is unlikely to involve a substantial sum, estimating the payout to be in the low single-digit millions.

“It’s not a huge issue in the world of business,” Borson commented. “These things happen all the time, and while it makes for entertaining football-related news, the actual financial impact is probably limited.”

He added, “It’s likely a matter of interpretation regarding the contract’s termination clause—possibly whether INEOS owed Tottenham a few more months’ worth of payments.

I doubt we’ll ever know the exact details, as this sort of case usually ends in a quiet settlement.”

INEOS, in a statement released on 13 June, clarified: “INEOS Automotive has been a partner of Tottenham Hotspur since 2022, building upon an initial partnership that began in 2020.

We had a contractual right to end the agreement and exercised that right in December 2024.”

Meanwhile, on the pitch, Tottenham could be preparing to outmaneuver Manchester United in the transfer market.

According to Football Insider, Spurs are eyeing a move for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

Thomas Frank’s recent appointment as Tottenham head coach has increased speculation about a possible switch for the Cameroon international, who previously showed a preference for Old Trafford.

Tottenham’s qualification for next season’s Champions League could give them a significant edge, especially with United unable to offer European competition.
