West Ham Reportedly Make Official Enquiry for £120k-a-Week Premier League Star

West Ham United Targeting Premier League Striker in January Transfer Window

Graham Potter is well aware that West Ham needs to bolster their attacking options before the January transfer window closes.

Nice striker Evann Guessand is reportedly the club’s primary target this month.

However, the Hammers’ transfer team is also exploring alternative options.

Potter currently faces a shortage of attacking players, with Niclas Fullkrug, Michail Antonio, and Jarrod Bowen unavailable.

Among them, only Bowen is expected to return soon. It’s crucial for West Ham to secure a proven centre-forward as cover to address this gap.

The Hammers are eager to sign a Premier League striker during the January window, and completing such a deal is vital for Potter.

His current forward options are insufficient, and reports suggest West Ham is pursuing Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. According to Give Me Sport, the club has made an inquiry for the 27-year-old.

Before Potter’s tenure, Julen Lopetegui had reportedly considered Calvert-Lewin as a long-term replacement for Antonio.

The Everton forward, who earns £120,000 per week (Salary Sport), is set to become a free agent this summer. However, West Ham seems intent on securing his services this month.

Despite this interest, signing Calvert-Lewin would likely be a mistake. A major concern is his poor injury record.

Since the start of the 2021/22 season, he has missed 69 games due to various injuries (Transfermarkt). He will turn 28 in March, and his fitness issues are likely to worsen with time.

West Ham should steer clear of signing Calvert-Lewin during this window. Investing in a player with such a troubling injury history could prove to be a costly error for the club.

Instead, the Hammers should prioritize finding a more reliable and durable option to strengthen their attack.
