Di Marzio commented: “Milan continues to work carefully on the market. Regarding the attack, Füllkrug will go to West Ham.
After an initial survey and contacts in early July, the Rossoneri club ceased further action. Consequently, the German player will move to the Premier League.”
West Ham is set to sign Fullkrug, who is considered somewhat of an enigma in Premier League terms. Viewed by some as a “late bloomer,” Fullkrug made his debut for Germany at the age of 29.
The towering striker brings a different dynamic but remains untested in English football, as Frank McAvennie noted on July 31.
Nevertheless, Fullkrug’s impressive goalscoring record is undeniable, with an average of 0.5 goals per game during his tenure with Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, which secured his move to Dortmund.
He scored 12 league goals last season in Dortmund’s black and yellow jersey and has netted 13 times in 21 appearances for Germany.
The late rise in Fullkrug’s career could mean he continues to perform well into his later years, potentially earning him a longer contract at the London Stadium than typically offered to a 31-year-old, who made his professional debut back in 2011.
