Barry Ferguson, who stepped in as interim manager following Philippe Clement’s dismissal in February, remains uncertain about his long-term future at the helm.

It’s widely expected that Marathe and Cavenagh, working in tandem with incoming sporting director Kevin Thelwell, will evaluate all managerial candidates closely.

Thelwell, currently at Everton, is set to assume his new role this summer, taking responsibility for football operations at Ibrox—including recruitment and the appointment of a permanent manager.

Former Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield has weighed in on the club’s transfer priorities, stressing that among all players who could be retained, none are more crucial than Wolfsburg loanee Vaclav Cerny.

The Czech winger, who has excelled in his loan spell, is available for a permanent fee of £6million.

Cerny, 27, has delivered 24 goal contributions across all competitions this season and produced several standout performances.

Arfield believes that, given the club’s willingness to invest £4.5million in injured youngster Oscar Cortes based on potential alone, securing Cerny’s services should be a straightforward decision.

Speaking to the Daily Record (24 April), Arfield stated, “It looks like Rangers are going to have to dig deep to get the Czech ace.

But if the club is willing to pay £4.5million for someone with Cortes’ potential, why not pay £6m for someone almost guaranteed to be a success?”

“Cerny has been the team’s standout performer this season, and if he’s committed to staying, I’d absolutely bring him back.”

Cerny must remain at Ibrox next season

Many loanees have struggled under the weight of expectation at Rangers or failed to adapt to the demands of the Scottish game.

Cerny, however, has embraced the challenge and become a fan favourite, providing memorable moments during a tough campaign.

Arfield’s argument makes sense. Spending three-quarters of Cerny’s asking price on Cortes—despite his promise—while neglecting a proven performer like Cerny would be a questionable decision.

Cerny has proven his quality, seems to enjoy playing at Ibrox, and would likely offer more value for money than other targets who may not deliver similar output.
