“Strongest Squad in West Ham’s History” | Stuart Pearce Enthused by Team’s Potential

Stuart Pearce, who made 48 appearances for West Ham between 1999 and 2001, later joined David Moyes’ coaching staff during the 2017/18 season.

He returned to the club from 2020 to 2022, working again under Moyes in his second managerial spell.

In a talkSPORT interview, Pearce praised the current West Ham squad, highlighting its depth and talent.

He remarked, “The business they did in the summer was very good.

Some of the signings, like [Mohammed] Kudus, [Lucas] Paqueta, and [Jarrod] Bowen, are strengthening what they already had. It’s a really good squad.”

Pearce went on to say, “You could argue this is the strongest group of players, on paper, the club has ever had. I’m sure some West Ham fans might disagree.”

However, most fans would likely agree with Pearce’s assessment. The club boasts several high-profile players respected in both English and European football.

In addition to their attacking prowess, players like Max Kilman, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Edson Alvarez would be valuable additions to many teams outside of the Premier League’s traditional top six.

Pearce emphasized that the current squad’s value is higher than ever.

“In the past, you couldn’t sell players for what you can now,” he noted.

Before Declan Rice’s departure, the club’s record sale was Dimitri Payet, who left for Marseille for £25 million.

Today, West Ham has at least six players who could command higher fees.

Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paquetá, and Jarrod Bowen have all been linked with potential transfers exceeding £80 million, underscoring the sheer talent at manager Julen Lopetegui’s disposal.

Despite the team’s promise, Pearce believes Lopetegui should be given time to succeed, stating, “People expect too much sometimes, but I’m encouraged by where they are now.”
