Phil Hay Praises Leeds’ New Signing Following Multi-Million Deal

This past weekend, Leeds United signed Jayden Boyle from Sheffield United for £5 million (Danny Hall, 20 July).

In a recent opinion piece (The Athletic, 22 July), Phil Hay expressed confidence in Leeds’ decision.

“Leeds United have paid Sheffield United £5m for Jayden Bogle, securing one of the best right-backs in the Championship. This move strengthens their promotion prospects.”

After last season’s play-off final heartbreak, Leeds needed changes, which they’ve now implemented. They’ve raised over £70 million from player sales, including Archie Gray, Glen Kamara, and Luis Sinisterra, enabling future reinvestment.

Boyle brings two years of Premier League experience and four years of high-level Championship football. Some may think he should’ve joined a top-flight club, but at nearly 24, he has time to return to the Premier League.

Currently, many pundits and bookmakers favor Leeds to win the league. While it’s too early to confirm that, Leeds has the resources to make significant moves in the transfer market this summer.
