If Rangers lose at Tynecastle, the gap would stretch to seven, a deficit that would look impossible to recover. English believes Rangers are largely responsible for their own danger.
He wrote that they score freely but concede just as easily. He also described a flaky streak, with too many players drifting through matches. It is harsh, but difficult to dispute. Too many individuals have performed below expectations, especially in first halves.
There is encouragement, though, because Rangers’ hopes remain partly in their own hands. They still face Hearts and Celtic, the current top two, and need six points from six.
However unlikely that sounds, it must be the aim if they want to stay relevant. Then on May 16, Celtic host Hearts. Should that result favour Rangers, Rohl’s side could edge ahead before the final round of fixtures.
